A meeting with Lena…
Lena Kelly has been our Active Club manager for 25 years. I caught up with Lena to chat to her about working out, classes and our active club.
When joining Ferrycarrig Active Club what can you expect?
You can expect a welcoming environment where you can feel extremely comfortable working out in the most energising club in Wexford.
You will receive a full consultation with a qualified instructor. We will anaylse your current fitness levels and we will also identify issues and challenges that are holding you back from achieving your overall goal. Here in Ferrycarrig Active Health & Fitness Club our gym is fully equipped with TechnoGym equipment. Our 20m swimming pool includes a shallow kid’s pool. We have a sauna, steam room & jacuzzi that looks out over the stunning River Slaney for you to sit back and relax.
Should we be setting goals before we start exercising?
Goals are very important. It has been proven that individuals who have set goals will have greater exercise adherence than individuals who don’t both in the short term and the long term. Exercise goals allow you to have a target in which you want to reach. Goals keep you motivated and driven. They’re also great to remind you why your started exercising in the first place and you can look back and see how much you have achieved!
Lena, there is a lot of people that would love to start exercising, what’s the best way for them to get started?
‘Choose activities that you enjoy’
Some people love doing their own thing so they would be well suited to getting an individual program to suit them, all of our gym instructors are trained to design a tailor made program for your needs. Other people would find this very intimidating and would much rather exercise in a group environment which is great fun & challenging. We have a huge range of classes to facilitate this.
What type of classes are available here?
We have a huge range of classes available, spin, aqua, boxercise, HIIT, zumba, spin & abs, step & sculpt, active shred, body pump, stretch & flex and warrior circuit. If you are a member you can enjoy these classes for free and non-members can pay €8. The benefit of attending our classes is you can achieve great result in a fun environment where everyone is working together to achieve similar goals. We also have Tai Chi, Yoga and swimming lessons available.
Is it a good idea to bring a training buddy?
Absolutely! It can have a very positive effect on your overall workout. Training buddies can be great for keeping you motivated during your workout as well as becoming more challenging which will result in increased effort and overall improved exercise performance. Training together can also make working out a lot more enjoyable and motivating.
Do you recommend changing your exercise regime?
Yes! Doing the same things every time you exercise can get very boring and less challenging. It is very important to change your form of training methods. All of our instructors can prepare a different exercise plan for you every 4-6 weeks to monitor your progress and maintain your motivation and keep you challenged.
What is the best time of the day to exercise?
This is unique for each individual. Some people find that first thing in the morning is the best time as it kick starts their day. Others find that later on in the afternoon is the most beneficial as their body is fully alert and ready for exercise. It is important that individuals realise what time of the day they are capable of exercising to their maximum capacity so they can perform to their optimal level.
